Health and Safety Policy for Removal Van Enfield
Removal Van Enfield is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, customers, contractors and members of the public who may be affected by our activities. This Health and Safety Policy sets out our approach to managing risks associated with domestic and commercial removals, packing, loading, transport and unloading of goods.
Policy Statement and Objectives
Our objective is to prevent injury, ill health and damage to property arising from our removal and transport services. We will identify, assess and control risks in all moving and handling operations, with particular attention to manual handling, driving, loading and unloading, use of equipment and work at or near customers premises.
We will regularly review our procedures to ensure that health and safety standards are maintained and improved wherever reasonably practicable. All employees are expected to co-operate fully with this policy and to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others.
Management Responsibilities
Senior management has overall responsibility for implementing this Health and Safety Policy across all Removal Van Enfield operations. This includes allocating adequate resources, planning safe systems of work, monitoring performance and ensuring that legal and industry standards are met.
Managers and supervisors are responsible for day-to-day health and safety in their areas of control. This includes ensuring that staff are properly trained, that equipment is maintained, that risk assessments are carried out and that any accidents, incidents or near misses are reported and investigated promptly.
Employee Responsibilities
All employees of Removal Van Enfield must take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of colleagues, customers and other people affected by their actions. Employees are required to follow all safety instructions and training provided, to use equipment correctly and to report any hazards, defects or incidents to their supervisor as soon as possible.
Employees must not misuse or interfere with anything provided in the interests of health and safety, including personal protective equipment, lifting aids, vehicles and other work equipment.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Removal Van Enfield will carry out suitable and proportionate risk assessments for all regular tasks, including packing, loading and unloading vehicles, transporting goods, working at height when required and handling heavy or awkward items. These assessments will identify significant hazards and set out control measures to reduce risks to an acceptable level.
Safe systems of work will be developed and communicated to staff. These may include the use of team lifts, lifting aids and protective equipment, restrictions on maximum load weights, safe driving procedures, and methods for safely moving items through stairwells, corridors and entrances in residential and commercial buildings.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling is a key risk in the removals sector. Employees will receive training in correct lifting and carrying techniques, planning lifts, using team lifts, recognising personal limitations and avoiding unnecessary manual handling. Wherever possible, trolleys, dollies, sack barrows, straps and other lifting aids will be used to reduce physical strain.
All equipment used by Removal Van Enfield will be suitable for its intended purpose and will be inspected regularly. Defective or damaged equipment must be reported and taken out of service immediately until repaired or replaced.
Vehicle Safety and Driving Standards
Our vehicles are central to our work and must be operated safely at all times. Only authorised and appropriately licensed employees may drive company vehicles. Drivers must conduct pre-use checks, report faults promptly and follow all road traffic regulations.
Vehicles will be loaded and secured in line with recommended loading practices to prevent shifting loads, overloading or instability. Loads will be distributed evenly, secured using straps or other restraints where needed, and doors and tailgates will be checked before departure.
Customer Premises and Public Safety
Our teams work in and around homes, offices and shared public spaces. We will take reasonable steps to protect customers, visitors and the public from harm while removal activities are taking place. This includes maintaining clear walkways, marking potential trip hazards, securing doors where necessary and positioning vehicles to minimise obstruction and risk.
Where access is restricted or presents particular challenges, our staff will assess the situation and agree a safe method of working before proceeding, seeking additional support or equipment if needed.
Training, Information and Supervision
Removal Van Enfield will provide appropriate health and safety training to all employees based on their role and level of responsibility. This may include induction training, manual handling, safe driving, use of lifting aids, working at height and emergency procedures.
Instructions and guidance will be communicated clearly and reinforced through supervision and ongoing monitoring of work practices. Refresher training will be provided when necessary, for example following changes to equipment, procedures or relevant legislation.
Accident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, injuries, near misses and dangerous occurrences must be reported to management without delay. Accurate records will be maintained, and investigations will be carried out to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.
Emergency procedures will be in place for incidents such as fire, personal injury, vehicle collision, spillage or property damage occurring during our work. Staff will be briefed on how to respond, including how to summon assistance and how to make the area safe where it is reasonably practicable to do so.
Health, Welfare and Fitness for Work
Removal Van Enfield recognises the importance of employee health and welfare in maintaining a safe working environment. Employees are expected to present themselves fit for work and must not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs while on duty. Any medical condition or injury that may affect an employee’s ability to work safely should be reported to management so that appropriate adjustments or alternative duties can be considered.
Monitoring, Review and Continuous Improvement
This Health and Safety Policy will be reviewed regularly and updated as necessary to reflect changes in our operations, legislation, guidance or industry best practice. We will monitor our performance through inspections, incident reports, staff feedback and management reviews to ensure that our standards remain effective and appropriate.
Removal Van Enfield is committed to continual improvement in health and safety performance and to maintaining a positive safety culture in all aspects of our removal and transport services.
